Liu Huanhua’s rise in the world of weightlifting began at age 13 in Chenzhou, when he was recruited by the Tianjin weightlifting team. His first standout performance came at the 2018 China Youth Championships, where he dominated the 77 kg class and won gold in both the snatch and clean & jerk — a clear sign of things to come.
National Recognition at the 2021 National Games
In 2021, Liu moved to the 81 kg division and competed at the 14th National Games of China. He impressed the field with a third-place finish, earning his place as a fast-rising contender on the national stage.
2022–2023: From Contender to Champion
Liu’s upward trajectory continued in 2022 at the World Championships in Bogotá, where he competed in the 89 kg class and secured a bronze overall. By 2023, now competing in the 96 kg category, he clinched gold at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jinju — first in snatch, second in clean & jerk, and unmatched in determination.
Later that year, Liu earned his biggest win yet: gold at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh. Now competing at 102 kg, he placed fourth in the snatch but dominated the clean & jerk to take the overall crown — a career-defining moment.
World Records at the Asian Games
In an impressive move to the 109 kg category, Liu competed at the 2022 Asian Games (held in 2023) in Hangzhou. His lifts — 233 kg in the clean & jerk and 418 kg total — exceeded world records. Although not officially recognized due to the Olympic weight class structure, his performance solidified his global dominance.
